(this is me, alive, and cold)

uhhh so, i made it.

well then. 2nd times a charm right? i hope so, cause its my second time in colombia, and so far so good. i did get pooped on by a bird yesterday, but since thats good luck i only heaved once.

so what have i been up to? well, i got the hell out of bogota cause it wouldn’t stop raining. its a great city, but I’ve had enough of winter.

fun game, see if you can find where civilization ends...

bogota is GIANT. literally the city goes on as far as the eye can see, and it can take over 2 hours to drive from one side to the other. i climbed about a million steps (and 2000+ meters of altitude gain) to the top.

i could have taken the funicular up , but that would have been way too easy. i did take it down though.. i want my knees to last for at least another decade or so. although it was a clear day, it was actually impossible to see the end of the city.

i literally have no idea what funicular is in english, sorry

one of my favorite things about bogota is the street art- i have never seen such amazing graffiti! honestly (sorry dad.. you are not going to like this) but i am not a huge appreciator of classic ‘art’.. my favorite art galleries are the streets.. you never know what you are going to find!

apparently graffiti is pretty illegal- 2 kids were killed by police this year when they got caught tagging. fun (and fucked up) fact: apparently when justin bieber came to bogota, he was accompanied BY POLICE to tag something. talk about a double standard.

taxi photo.. couldn't pass it up

i have also never seen anywhere else that takes christmas more seriously.

take this and multiply it by almost every public space in bogota

no joke, santa must be pumped.

anyways, i had a great couple of days in bogota! tried some aguardiente, ate some patacones, and last night hopped on a bus. IM GOING GOING BACK BACK TO CALI CALI. no, seriously though, i am in cali right now after a 12 hour bus ride. the first thing i get asked when i get to my hostel is ‘want to go climbing?’

what do you guys think the answer was?

  1. Hey,
So AnnaLisa forwarded this blog to me. I’ve been in Costa Rica for two months and am eager to get moving south, because I’m ready for some culture! I want to continue learning Spanish, so the less western influence, the better – If that even exists… haha. What places do you recommend in Colombia? I’ll start in Cartagena after sailing from Panama, then Medellin, Bogota and Cali. Any preferences or other suggestions? I’m thinking at LEAST 2 weeks in each of those cities, but this post kind of turns me off of Bogota. And Cartegena seems too touristy. Feel free to email me!
    Thanks, Alex
